Already an established freelancer with the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Heather picked up a few extra assignments with the newspaper over the 2017-18 winter. Past work was usually on the high school sports beat, but this was an opportunity to write about the University of Minnesota Gophers men's hockey and women's basketball teams. Work for the hockey games also included pregame blog posts.
