about Heather
Heather is a sports journalist, author and social media coordinator living in the Twin Cities. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism and mass communications from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn.
She started in journalism working for three newspapers in greater Minnesota, the Austin Post-Bulletin, Fergus Falls Daily Journal and Albert Lea Tribune. She covered everything from heated city council meetings to high school basketball games to high-profile court cases.
But one of Heather's true passions, along with writing, is watching sports. She started learning the games of baseball and hockey in middle school when she started watching the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Wild games. Her other favorite sport to watch is IndyCar racing, a sport that has a smaller national following but is a Rule family tradition to watch and attend IndyCar races.
That passion for sports and writing led Heather to her role as sports editor of her college newspaper, The Aquin. It was there that Heather really found her love for sports journalism, combing her two favorite things. She started her own sports blog, Thoughts from the Stands, to keep writing. She kept it going throughout her career as a news reporter.
Heather dove into the sports world as a freelance sports journalist and soon after started working as an in-game social media coordinator with the Minnesota Twins social media team. Heather is always happy to network with those in the sports/journalism/social media world or chat about possible freelance opportunities.
